In a REAL WORLD scenario you can similarly pull out the Video IN composite cable out, or some other means to cut the signal, for a second or two (you'll just have to figure the timing out on your own) and quickly plug it back in.
Or it could be across all converters? If this occurs to you, THE FIX for me was hold the reset button on the NES for "just long enough" that when I let go and the image displayed the strip was gone. This "bug" could also be unique to MY converter. It's difficult to see unless the image is dark, but there is a strip of distortion that goes down left of center of the screen as well as some slight "ghosting" that occurs alongside it.
